Simply Made Sunday: Spooky Oreos!

Well my goodness, I took a few weeks off from Simply Made Sunday and it seems to have moved! See how on top of things I am?! Ha! But, Maddie and I have been busy in the kitchen lately and I thought I'd share this fun Halloween treat!
First, we had to melt the chocolate. We chose a bag of green melts.
My little sous chef has some issues with eating our supplies...
Then, dip the Oreo into the melted chocolate. Maddie liked to dip half the cookie in the chocolate and then dip again in Halloween-themed sprinkles.
Again, there go our profits... :)
Lay the dipped Oreos on wax paper and then pop in the fridge until hardened (about 5 minutes).
We also picked up some cupcake toppers (you know, those ridiculously hard sugar things that pass themselves off as candy?!) and used those on the tops, too. This was such a fun, quick and easy project. Oh, and they were quite delicious!

Simply Made Sunday: Muffin Tin Apple Pies

Yay for Simply Made Sunday!! Maddie and I haven't participated in a couple of weeks, and it's not for lack of being in the kitchen. Early last week, we made pumpkin bread with cream cheese swirls (from scratch!!) and it turned out quite yummy. But, I'm finding that as Maddie takes on more responsibilities "cooking," that leaves a little less camera time for me, if you know what I mean. Ha!
But today, we made some mini apple pies and I got some pics. They are actually for our Muffin Tin Monday tomorrow, so you'll have to check in tomorrow to see how they turned out! I will say that while these took forever to make (and no, a two year old should have no part of "helping" me peel apples, other than picking up the stray peelings off the floor), we had a blast together.
First, we mixed together the spices and sugar and flour. By the way, the recipe came from here, though we made several adaptations!
Stirring everything together... My kitchen looked like a bakery exploded after little miss was done stirring.
Then, we cut the pie crust into circles and put them in the muffin tin.
And, these are our very sorry gourmet mini apple pies! Seriously, I was cracking up as we assembled these because Maddie's idea of lattice work on top was, well, unique. She wanted to pinch, squish and poke every piece of these poor guys. I can't wait to see how they turn out!
On a side note, I have to say that I've never had pie before. Yeah, yeah... I know. Odd. So, I'm excited to try these and mark "try pie" off my life's list of things to do. :)

Simply Made Sunday: Piggy Cupcakes

It's time for another edition of Simply Made Sunday! I have to say, I love this so much; I've realized that Maddie adores being in the kitchen with me and I truly like having her there. Plus, cooking and baking provides so many learning opportunities. We talk about numbers (three eggs, 1 cup of water, ect), sequencing and steps and just... chat. The chatting is my favorite. :)
It was just a girls' night in, so we decided to make our very favorite Funfetti cupcakes (exotic, huh?). And, since I had a bag of huge marshmallows, I thought it'd be cute to make pig cupcakes. Maddie was totally on board, but crashed hard and fast.
So, after putting her down to bed, I finished the piggies. Yes, they ARE missing ears; I later cut little pink paper triangles and stuffed them in the heads. Pink wafer cookies, cut in triangles would be far cuter and actually edible.
I tried to get a picture of her reaction when she saw the cupcakes. Suffice it to say that she was incredibly excited. Ha! Of course, it also meant that we just had to sample one, even if it was for breakfast. :)

Simply Made Sunday: Princess Wands

This week, we participated in Simply Made Sunday, over at a blog that I just love. Maddie and I are always baking or cooking something, and I thought it'd be fun to link up and show what we were up to in the kitchen. She loves helping me and I love her being there. :)

Lately, Maddie is fascinated by anything princess related. She's fallen love with the movie Cinderella and is constantly playing with her princess figures. So, this week I thought it'd be fun to make some princess wands together, using pretzel rods, chocolate and sprinkles. Annie was over and helped us a ton.
First, we had to melt the white chocolate chips in the microwave.
Then, we took the pretzel rods (or "wands") and dipped them in the melted chocolate. Maddie's favorite part was next: twirling the wands in the different colored sprinkles (which were from either the dollar spot at Target or from the lid of the Funfetti frosting can!).
And, these are our finished products! They rested in the freezer, on wax paper, for about ten minutes (or until they hardened). Maddie loves them and we even wrapped up several for Grandma. Annie, thank you for helping us make (and eat!) these!!
