Happy Groundhog Day!

I think the only other time I've really celebrated Groundhog Day was when I was teaching first grade. But, I knew it would interest Maddie, so we added it to her big February calendar and I pulled some activities. And, she's totally loved it.

Of course, now she's asking for a groundhog as a pet... Ha!
She's never done anything like this before, but when I saw it HERE, I thought I'd try. I helped her out by providing just the necessary colors and I also circled the number in the correct color. She worked way harder on this than I thought! I'll have to try and find some similar ones.

Then, she requested to make her own groundhog, so I cut some scrapbooking paper and off she went.

The left one is her finished color by number and the right is her groundhog, coming out of his hole and surrounded by snow (cotton balls).

She later insisted we make a girl groundhog because the first one didn't have a bow. Have I created a bow monster?!

This is one of those magnet pages and even though I provided disk magnets, she had no interest in doing more than three or four. So, I got out the dot stampers and she happily went to work.

See the brown scribbles underneath the sun? For the past few weeks, she's been really interested in writing her name on all her projects. While she does write from left to right, she will pick up her pen or pencil and create each letter (or, semblence of a letter) separately. Stuff like this just warms my heart, seeing her work so hard on a task she really wants to accomplish.

This was just a fun filler she did while I was making lunch. She colored in the groundhog and then matched the sticker to the number on the page.

Can you spot the groundhog, peering out from his snowy burrow? Maddie did and squealed with delight!
